I wanted to say that I was incorrect in there being only one town named Egres (the one in Zemplén County). Further research on my part found that there is in fact an Egres/Igris in the former Torontal county (a/k/a/ Banat).
Since I have a copy of Martha Connor's extract of the Torontal 1828 land census, I was able to look in the Egres census record, and found there to be 17 Galu's and 11 Zsebelan's living in the town in 1828 (this from a town with 452 houses). The spellings "Galu" and "Zsebelan" are those used during that time period, at least.
I wrote you privately to recommend a researcher who is very familiar with the area and makes frequent trips there ( I was not able to locate microfilmed church records).
