You might want to get a copy of the book "German Emigration from Bukovina to the Americas", by William Keel and Kurt Rein. There is a chapter "Bukovina Germans in Lewis County, Washington", which says "...some of the earlier arrivals came through Galveston, Texas, because, not only was it the least expensive route, but also because many planned to visit relatives in Kansas before proceeding to the Northwest".
Later in the chapter, it mentions that the earliest arrivals were in 1887, and that "...this group was followed in 1888 by Heinrich and Carolina (Roos) Ast and Georg and Maria (Roos) Grohs. Carolina Ast and Maria Grohs were the daughters of Adam Roos."
Anyway, get a copy of the book (it's a paperback, and not very expensive)I'm sure you'll find a lot of other interesting information in it.
