I checked in the Ellis Island records and there are 5 FARARs listed.I recognized a Zuberec as the village is still in the Slovak Republic. I did find a listings for the name Farar in the city of Bratislava.None in Zuberec,Dolny Kubin. Our ancestors did not change their name most of the time. Some have of course. As you see I kept my original spelling but the pronounciation I get are not pretty. At times I wish I did "americanized" it. The manifests are in original spelling for that time but when they got to America the person taking down the name might have written it the way it sounded to him and so the different spelling. The name might be spelled different but when pronounced it sounds the way it would in its origins. There are a dark skin people in the Slovak Republic too.I know that there was that story or to scare children so tell them the gypsies will take you away if you won't behave.Something like that.
