Hello, I sure hope someone can help me. I have posted to every board and list I could find but I am always told it is the wrong one. I have posted on the Austro Hungary mailing list and The Banat mailing list a couple times but still am told it is the wrong list. I tried the FEEFHS Mailing List also with no reply.
I am trying to research my ggrandfather and his family. My ggrandfather said on a census he was from Austro Hungary and then it was Hungary. Now I understand it is Romania. I recently found a letter written in OLD Hungarian and a post card written in OLD German. I had them translated and found many years of information, (about fifteen years). The names of my ggrandfather and grandfather are:
JANOS HEIMLICH (at one time lived in Gyulafehervar) also was sent to Budapest, then further on but the letter didn't say why he was sent further. His parents may have also lived here. B. April 1860 D. ???? Birthplace: Rusor,Hunyad megye,Hungary Married: LOTTI ????? When: Maybe about 1885,age 25 (he was married 15yrs. on the 1900 census) Arrived/USA: About 1895, unknown area Ship: Unknown Port of Departure: I believe Hamburg,Germany Father of seven or eight children left in Hungary. I could only find JANOS on the 1900 Manhattan, NY census. I could not find him before or after that one census. He never returned to his homeland according to the letters. Spoke- Polish, Hun-Yiddish, German
JANOS' son: EMANUEL HEIMLICH B: Jan 1888 Birthplace: Rusor, Hunyad megye,Hungary Arrived/USA: Oct 4,1899 Ship: WERRA Port of Departure: Bremen,Germany Last Residence: DEVA Married: Frieda Louise Meigs-about 1906 in the state of ??? of USA Occupation: Barber and Sign Painter Father of Nine Children- 8 living Spoke: Polish,Hun-Yiddish, German, English Died: Dec 16, 1942 in Phila,PA. USA.
These are the names and places mentioned in a letter dated 1915. These are some of the Children of JANOS that were still in Hungary.
SAMUKA- 15, worked as a man-servant. Was made to sleep outside and died from the cold. SARIKA- 16,she shot herself in the head on Jan 16,???? SAMU- died at 18 after suffering from a long illness. REZSI,(RESZO)- a butcher, died in the war. After his enlisting, he was in Budapest for three months. He was transferred to the Galician front, today's southern Poland. He died on March 12,(1915?) from a gunshot to his head. News came from a priest in the local hospital in "ZAKLEICYM". Please, what war was this? HERMINA- who had two daughters and a son. They lived in BIHISGGULA, Hungary with husband. BAB- whose daughter was named ERZSIKE and mabye a wife/husband named MICZIKE. UNCLE MARCI AUNT CILLA ZSIGA GRANMAMA LILI -may have owned a BUTCHER & Crop Merchant Shop, also may have been LOTI's Mother. Loti- (was married to Janos) remarried in a civil marriage in 1908 in BIHISGGULA, Hungary. They also lived there. This is the same place HERMINA lived with her family. JOSEF JOLDMANRA or GOLDMANA- in BELSAGYORB. Also a post card with billy (?) JUNGER C. PETROZSENY, post marked March 12,1920. I believe the Butcher & Crop Merchant Shop was owned and run by granparents. Parents of Loti. this family had a couple businesses, one being a clothing store in front of their house.
I am sorry this information is so long but I am hoping with it someone will be able to help me. Besides posting evrywhere I could think of, I also did:
*Checked EllisIsland. Only found Emanuel. *Checked SSDI, Nothing *Checked LDS, only found where they were born. *Checked Naturalization, nothing. *NO Obituaries *Searched for Emanuel's marriage lic; nothing. *Can't find any church records in US. *Posted to many boards. *Joined many lists. **I CAN NOT afford a researcher at this time. I have been trying for 4 years now. *I have rented film and never found anything. I have *read everything I can. It just seems so confusing. There were a lot of wars. The more I try to read, the more confused I get.
Thank you in advance for your time and help. Millie, State of Delaware Grand daughter of EMANUEL Heimlich.
