My mother maiden name was Gertrude Gottel and as I am aware my grandpa's family was the only Gottel family who remained in Romania after the WWII.
Grandfather name: Herman Gottel Grandmother name: Karoline-Josephine Gottel (born Dembowicz)
They lived and then passed away in Siret (Sereth) -Romania, Bukovina, my grandfather died in 1985 . They had 7 children: Olga, Filip, Gertrude, Paula, Rudolph, Peter, Erna. Except Olga who passed away, all the rest currently live in Romania.
The German culture was very strong in the family, but after Herman died it dissipatted due to marriages to Romanian nationals. My grandfather mentioned few times that his relatives left to Germany and US/Canada, one of them inUS/Canada founded a hospital which bear its name.
We succeded to discover our current relatives from germany and we are in direct contact with them. Nothing from North America, excepting that we have been presented once pictures of the Gottel family in Canada (they were about in their 80's or more, and the strongest genetical trait of the family was very obvious: the round shaped chin we all have). Also another information we got: the name Gottel has been changed to a similar one to adapt local Canadian pronunciation (so I believe it could be your name).
