I had been searching in England because of where my possible grandfather was born but now, after getting a copy of his SS# app showing parents as Nathan and Esther, I think he changed the spelling of his name and Maurice and Morris are the same person.
If so, the family moved from Russia to England (where Morris/Maurice was born) to the US/Massachusetts. Here is some info someone on the England forum found:
Social Security Death Index shows Maurice Newman, born 8 May 1903, London, died September 1963. Social Security Number issued in New York before 1951.
Florida Death Index 1877-1998 shows Maurice M. Newman died in September 1963 (Dade County).
Florida State Census 1945 shows Maurice Newman, age 41, born England, living in Dade County. Occupation listed as “restaurant.” Also listed, Rose Newman, age 34, born NY, housewife and Dorothy Newman, age 6, born in NY. They lived at 150 Jefferson, Apartment 16.
Morris Newman in the 1910 US Census. He was living in Quincy, Mass, immigrated 1908:
HouseholdGenderAge Parent Nathan Newman M 29y, born Russia Parent Esther Newman F 29y , born Russia Dora Newman F 8y , England Morris Newman M 7y , England Ida Newman F 4y, born Russia
Nathan Newman became a naturalized US citizen 3 March 1919. He was born 25 Dec 1880 in “Bonnee, Russia” was a tailor, his wife was Esther and he was living at 27 Dysart Street, Quincy, MA.
I would so appreciate any info, especially if I can connect with any living family members.
