this is a challenge me thinks. After reading the information on Electric Scotland I am thinking "Bui" may mean "fair skinned or blonde haired", in this particular instance.[I could be possible that his wife's maiden name was Cameron.
Many Camerons, at least in my family line, and of course other surnames, appear to add a descriptive to their names ie "Mor" "beg" etc. [ possibly to keep track of who is who----
I do have the Baptism cert. and I could send it to you if you like.Actually her name looks like Finwal.
--This whole matter stems from a NAS memorandum--GD112/54/4....33-dated 1784-- regarding my 5x great grandmother Mary Cameron of Lochiel who married Alexander Campbell of Finlarig. For whatever reason her son Archibald, 1728 Finlarig, had made a request for this information in 1784.This memorandum gives Mary's ancestryand relation to other Camerons and is based on "the Memoirs of Lochiel".
The last paragraph is where we find Coll McDougall-and of course why we have been tracking him down, so to speak,a new name in the circle of Cameron and Campbell. --this is the last part of it......
"That Jannet Campbell had seven sons and two daughters. The eldest son married a woman of the name of Cameron, a near relation of his own, but had no issue.
Her sons Duncan and Donald dies in Jaimaica and the rest of her sons died at home unmarried. Jannet Campbell’s eldest daughter named Susana (?) married to a gentleman of the Clan McLean, supposed McLean of Cregganuh, and Margaret the second daughter still in life married Coll McDougall of Ardnucaple. Hence MCDOUGALL ARDNACAPLE and your mother were second cousins and Marjory Glenlyon’s daughter was their great grandmother both. So that your mother was in the third degree of kin to the family of Glenlyon by the foresaid Marjory. And the late Carwhin by his mother was equally related to your mother by the Glenlyon family.
Sorting out this memorandum has been/is a huge challenge.
We have found a birth of a son on SP for Coll and his wifeso perhaps I should look into that as well-. We do know that Coll M was "of" Ardnacaple. Both he and his wife would have been older when they married. This then also brings me to another question.......
???was bearing children later in life a common practice in the 18th century? Having numerous babies after the age of 40 plus seems very late in my opinion.
Many thanks for your input Alex, I appreciate it. If you would like to contact me directly my email address is....
and....... after we figure out Mary Cameron's ancestors we will be on the hunt for her husbands-- I only hope I live long enough to find that answer---
