Searching for more info on my family. James Fowler of Bowden married Janet Scot 20 April 1760. They had at least five children: Mary c 5 feb 1762, James c 8 Jun 1764, Janet c 8 feb 1767 , John c 15 oct 1769, Alexander c 10 may 1778.
James (1764) had a son also called James who was c 27 aug 1794 in Ashkirk. This James married Elizabet (Betty) Dodds in Eckford 0n Dec 18 1812 or 13. Betty c 28 nov 1790 was the child of Thomas Dodds & Janet Boa. She had at least one sibling,Margaret who was c 4 nov 1792 in Bowden.
On 12 Nov 1816 James was ballotted to serve in the Militia. I have a copy of the notice signed by Wm. Atchison, Constable.
On May 22 1818 ,James Young minister of a church in Eckfordwrote ( I have copy) affirming that James & Betty had resided in th parish for six years and were of good character.. On 26 May 1818 , Donald or McDonald Churchof Mojosttower ? affirmed that James Fowler had been a farm servant with him for seven years , that his behavour was much to his satisfaction , that he goes to another country (Canada) and wished him every success in a foreign land
By Sept 1818 James his wife & his father & mother and brother were inPort Hope Upper Canadaand on 16 Sept was certified as Yeoman Immigrant.
