Thanks Rick for your quick reply>I am interested in anything you may have on Robert or the Riddell family in general. Some of the info I have came from a letter from a great uncle to my mother in the 1930s.According to this letter I am descended from a John Riddell who I believe was a weaver) born in 1785.His wife's name was Margaret Donald whose mother was a Christine Crerar. This John was the father of six sons and two daughters; William b 1809,Robert b. 1811, John b.1813, James b.1821, George b. 1824, Thomas b. 1829, Margaret b. 1818 , Isabella b. 1919 and Christina b. 1826.Of these John remained in Scotland, Thomas settled in Michigan USA, but the others all came to Canada except Isabella who went to Australia.William located at Amman Ontario near Owan Sound.James settled in Port Dover in 1844,where George and their sister who married an Innis and grandmother located in 1851.Robert lived for a while in Port Dover and then moved to Wallaceburg for a number of years but finally returned to Port Dover for the rest of his years.Jas. Riddell and his wife Catherine Morgan celebrated their golden wedding in 1895. Sometime in the late 1840s Robt ( who married Susan Tait) and James built a large factory at the foot of St Andrews street where they established a soap and candle factory.Robert and Susans daughter Susan married Neil MCdougall in Wallaceburg in 1897.Robt and Susan were my gr grand parents. I have info on the decendents of Susan and Neil.I also have several photos of the Port Dover crowd. I also expect to obtain more info over the next few weeks from sources in Southern Ontario. John whoremained in Scotland was a tailor and clothier and married a Georgina RobertsonThey seem to have moved to Davidson's Main Cramond near Edinburgh as they are found in there in the 1891 census.I wonder if the John a candle maker and Margaret Riddell both aged 55 shown as residing on the south side of Castle Gate Jedburgh in the 1841 censusIt shows Robt, John, Isabella, Christina and Thomas residing with them. In summary that is what I have at the moment. In scanning provious messages going back to 2000 I notice that there seems to be a fair amt of info on the familyin general including perhaps our line. I remember a message from a Tina who apparently had info.Do you know where our family resided? Was it Lilliesleaf on the Ale Water near Hawick? Is it the family that went into financil ruin about 1819?Look forwared to hearing from you.I can keep you informed as I get more info.Cheers Bob .
