I'm hoping someone is able to help me find out more about Archibald Phaup, his parents and/or his siblings (if he had any). His life as I know it is as follows:
b. abt 1814 in Hawick to William Phaup & Margaret Scott m. Janet Fairbairn 1839 in Earlston, Berwick Had two children, Jane, b. 30 Apr 1839 in Innerleithen, Peebles Margaret, b. 16 Jan 1845 in Innerleithen d. 24 Aug 1855 in Innerleithen
If anyone is able to find Archibald, or perhaps his parents, in the 1841 or 1851 censuses I would be most grateful. Likewise if anyone knows of any other children.
Margaret and her husband, James Jamieson, had one son, Robert, in 1869. James died the same year, and Margaret sometime between 1871 and 1881 (still haven't found her death certificate). Robert was taken in by his aunt, Jane.
Jane had two children to a partner (or partners) unknown, Jessie (abt 1853) and John (abt 1861), before marrying Thomas Walker. In 1871 these two illegimate children were living with their grandmother. Margaret and son Robert were also in this household.
By 1881 Robert Jamieson and John Phaup were living with Jane and Thomas Walker, and in 1883 the family emigrated to Dunedin, New Zealand.
If anyone recognises any of these names, please send me a note, as what little information I've found seems only to have shifted my dead end slightly sideways...
