The Rickarbys seem to come from the township/original farm of Rickarby near Carlisle in Cumbria. Some of them have then popped across the border to Gretna in SCotland nd speard out in that border corner of Scotland in the 1700s. In the mid 1800s they have moved further into East Lothian, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Gretna branch were merchants- tea merchants- and the liverpool branch of that family were cotton merchants.
I have tracked them because I have found a link to my Liverpool family, via the Hislop family.
There is also another branch I havent tracked way up in Aberdeen.
I am currently trying to see a link between theDumfries line and an Ayrshire line conencted with the Duncans and Dunlops. Does any of that ring a bell?
