Dear Merri,
Next time READ the message thoroughly before you attack the person who's posted it. I was just trying to help.
I am from Zrenjanin, a city of 100,000. It is situated in the central Banat region, 16km from the village of Melenci (pron. Melentsi) where your GF was born. My great-grandma was born there, too.
She was born in Austria-Hungary (b. 1908), came of age in the Kingdom of Serbia, got married in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, retired in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and died, God bless her, in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (d. 1998).
See how easily one gets confused?
As has been said, prior to 1918, Melentsi -- as well as the whole of Vojvodina -- had been part of the Austrian Empire. I am not saying your GF wasn't Serbian, I am just saying that he couldn't have had Serbian citizenship back then, and is non-existant in the Serbian files. That's why I said you should check the Austrian ones. There are probably some files in the archives, either in Zrenjanin or Melentsi.
His last name was SEKULICH not SEKULICK (as you'd written in your first message). I said there were no SEKULICKS in Serbia. Feel free to check. If you find a Serb (in Serbia) whose last name is Sekulick - I'll give you $10,000. That surname is non-existant. SEKULICH, I repeat, is.
