Hello.....I'm trying to decide where to start research for my roots abroad. The Toone-Tune-Toon surname is said to be common in the Leicester area, but research from there shows the family that was thought to be our ancestors were not.
Male Y-DNA test results for my family gets the most hits from Wales, Scotland, United Kingdom & France, in that order.
Our Tune family is confirmed to be in the Haplogroup R1b1b2a1b3, also known as R-SRY2627.
The places of highest frequency for this group are Spain (esp. Catalonia), Western France, Cornwall, and Wales.
My ancestor was James Toone of Virginia, circa 1620-1676. James has always been thought to be of English descent, but I have seen no original source documentation for this. He lived in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia until his death circa 1676.
