wow Alex you are so lucky a £1 to view pity i haven't any Scots ancestry, mine English, Welsh, and Irish. thanks again for going to so much trouble on my behalf as you said going back from me Brenda Allen 1947 born Salford father Ernest Allen 1924 born Salford his mother Mary Ellen Flanagan born M/C 1886 her mother MARY ELLEN PICKSTON (pixton, lickstone) born Salford? abt1860. she is on the 1881 census in the employ of Kesler Harrison Mary Ellen Pickstone Domestic servant born Salford 7a Queen st Stockport Cheshire (now greater m/c) i know this is my mary e as she married from that address in May of 1881.father Joseph cab driver. so that rules out the whitby family as we know Mary E was in stockport for that census. you are correct Annie was in the employ ofJoseph Cree in 1881.
the case you mentioned was very interesting, and just shows how you can't take anything for granted. i was looking for almost two years for my maternal gt grandparents marriage cert i knew all i needed to know about them but couldn't understand why i couldn't find their marriage. william bevan shropshire & alice marsden chorley both living in Salford in 1872 time of htier marriage. i eventualy sent for a cert for a william Vivian and a alice marsdenwhich thankfully turned out to be the right one. they married in Manchester Cathedral which i thought POSH only to find out marriages were done in bulk around 50 at a time, so not so posh.bren PS i now live in Ireland
