Rosanna de Fry 1/28/05
Hi my name is Ruth Suzanne Elizabeth de fry.I am replying to a message I saw from Rosanna de fry.I am interested in finding out more about the de fry family.
Originally, my ancestor, ie my great grand father spelt his name as d'vry.Since the British colonization he changed it to de-fry.His christian name was John Bernard. He was a member of the Dutch Burgher Union and/or recreation club at Havelock Town in Columbo. He was married twice, probably three times, after the death of his wives. His first wife and second wife are unknown. But he had three children from his second wife. His third wife was a Miss van Houton. The children of his first wife are unknown to my family. The children of his second wife was Peter, the eldest, next was a daughter (pet name "girlie") as known by my father. She lived in Kotahena after her marriage. The third child was my grandfather, Cyril Joseph William de fry and worked for the Ceylon Goverment Railway during the British reign. His third wife (Miss van Houton, christian name unknown) bore one child, as far as my father knows and her name is Petronella de fry.She bore three sons and her husband's name is Mr. Henricus (cannot recall first name at the moment).
My grandfather Cyril Joseph William de fry married Elaine Constance Fernando who was part Portugese and part Singhalese. She bore two children.Claudia Elizabeth de fry the eldest and Henry Terrance de fry.He married and he has two children one of which is myself, whom is the eldest and my brother Joseph Daniel Terrance William de fry.
There are other names involved in the family tree but unfortunately the document that my father had has been lost. However, as he remembers correctly, there are names on that family tree such as the Blakes, van Houtons, Firths, Issacsons, the cruzs and many more. My dad is now 69, and if his memory serves him correctly he may be able to give me more information next time.My father informs me that there are many de frys in Australia but they will not really divulge any information. He also remembers his father talking to him about a pilot who was a de fry and was related to him who unfortuantely died in an accident.
Anyway, I hope this is of some relevant information to you.And hope to receive a message back from you.
Ps.You could try the DNA bank in America for further details.
