I found some Welatantrige clan members going under names such as Welatantrige Don John Seneviratne, Minister of Justice and Judicial Reforms during the aftermath of the Tsunami on Dec26, 2004. More specifically, I found some Welatantrige and Welathanthirige and Wela Thanthirige connected with Botheju and Boteju on the Internet. I also contacted some general 'Bothejus' on Facebook who may be connected to us. Connect with me on Facebook and you may see some of them in a few days time.
There is a photo which is in the National Library of New Zealand with the caption: "Mrs Bothaju, a dental nurse graduate, photographed circa 17 Aug 1951 by an Evening Post staff photographer" and mentioned in the New Straits Times, 1953 as "Dental nurse TANJONG MALIM, Sat. Mrs. Jean Bothaju, a dental nurse, has arrived in Tanjong Malim to take charge of the dental clinic here. Previously she was a Sister Tutor at the Penang Dental School."
Jeanne Bothaju nee David (married our uncle Sammie Bothaju and after Sammie passed away, married an English police inspector, a Chalker) Jeanne was the longest serving nurse and matron till her eighties at the Morib Sanatorium, and her sister Claire (whom Jeanne helped to become a government nurse despite her eccentricity, and married to Charlie Especkerman) rented my house for a short time for RM450 per month around 1995 before they left to stay in Banting (lower cost of living) and eventually settled with her sister in a Catholic old folks home. I visited both of them off and on before the both of them passed away in 2007 and 2008 at 99 and 95 respectively.
This person, Wela Thanthirige Nimal Botheju, Asst Director for Matale and Polonnaruwa ,Ministry of Lands and Land Development should be related to us too. I think all these people, whether Bothaju, Botejue, Botheju and some Botejus of Kotte are related, especially the Welatanthriges. Only the spelling differs. Welatantrige Anthony Shirley Boteju, born 3-14-1939, son of Welatantrige Richard Boteju. According to Ranil, his grandfather's name was Welatantrige Reginald Peter Boteju born in 1901 in Kotte, Sri Lanka. He attended a school called Ananda Sastralaya, and worked for most of his life at Cargills Department Store. The Welatantrige (Wela Thanthirige) Bot(h)eju's or Bothaju do hail from the Kotte region in Sri Lanka.
In retrospect, the Rev. Canon Welatantrige Edwin Botejue would be related to us all. See http://www.dailynews.lk/2008/12/22/fea03.asphttp://www.dailynews.lk/2008/12/22/fea03.asp Hope more relatives connected to the name Botejue, Botheju or Boteju or even Bothaju can fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle.
