Dear Mr. Karunanayake, Sometime since I came back to you when you sent me some details of James Blackett, John Laing and John Stephens. I have since been able to contact the daughter of C.A. Laing by his first marriagewhom I knew in Ceylon when I was very young and she is in the U.S.so I have been researching the links from the early Rudd family through John Stephens, C. Laing & his son C.A. Laing. Whilst the Blacketts were also in that group who were opening up Dolosbage, it would appear that they were just long term friends up to my father's time. The area I am stuck in without any results yet are the death of Walter Scott Blackett and any obituarty that there may have been. It appears that he may have died between 1943 and 1946 according to Ferguson records. I am also unable to find out when the first James Blackett born ion 1808 died and what he was up to in the islande between 1808 to his death. He married Mary Brown about 1829 - 31 & given as living at Hantane. She would have died between 1843 to 1844. James then marriedd Henrietta Gerhardina Hesse ( I have marriage & death dates for her). He then married Sophia Francina Elhart in Colombo at St. Paul's, Pettah but I have no record of the death of James & Sophia which was probably in the period 1852 - 1870. James was given as living in Nuwara Eliya at one point. I would be very grateful for any comments on the above if you have any information in your records. I suspect it will mean endless searches in Sri Lanka and the relevant records are probably rotting in a corner of some building somewhere.
