Dear Hugh, I just came across something that may clear up a mystery for me -MAYBE-
In going over records of my ancestor, James Wait, he appears some of the time as James Watt and some of the time as James Wait. And this is true of some of his siblings as well.
In Ceylon, there is a George Watt, planter, Superintendent of St. Margarets, Uda Pussellawa, in 1850. He died at Pussellawa in June 1852. He was married to Louisa. This was found in a book of tombstone inscriptions in Ceylon covering 1776 to 1853.Could this be George Wait, and the ones for which you have found records, been his son, George? That would clear up some of the age problems that have been bothering me.Unfortunately, I have lost the reference to the book.Do you have any more information on this George Watt that might help? Thanks. Sam
