Fri Jun 21 2002 I am writing in support of Mr Fazli Sameer, the Sri Lanka Gen Webmaster who has a dispute with Mr Ivo Kelaart who demands removal of all genealogical data from the Gray/Joseph/Kelaart family genealogy. The original demand was made via Mr Kyle Joustra who sells genealogies on CDs.Mr Joustra contacted me some time ago with details of my family (the Winters). My family isof English descent and therefore did not appear in the Dutch Burghter Union Journals as did the Kelaart/Joseph/Gray family (the Grays are also ofBritish descent).Mr Joustra obtained details of my family from Part II ("The Golden Afternoon") of my book "The Golden Falcon" on website
but I did not object as my book has no copyright (at least the part I wrote and our family history) and is in the public domain.
Genealogical data concerns names, dates and places - of births, deaths, marriages, divorces etc. This information is readily available from Registrars, public libraries, published in newspapers and provided by family members interested in their family trees and other genealogists.
I think this controversy has been a step backwards not only for genealogists - whether professional or amateur - and freedom of information. Wendy Winter de Garcia / Spain email@example.com
