Dear Mr Kelaart,
Thanks for your mail.
The information that is published on the Sri Lanka Genealogy Website are taken from various sources, starting from family members, relatives, friends, the DBU Journals in Sri Lanka (which are all public domain, genealogy researchers, other archives, and various instititions of birth, marriage, and death registrations across the globe which are freely accessible by all and sundry.
Currently the SLGenWeb site contains more than 500 family trees belonging to many different Sri Lankan communities and ethnic groups.
However, if and when a particular family member requests his personal data to be removed from any family tree it is done without any issue as long as the request is genuine and comes directly from the person concerned. It is difficult for me, as Host of the SLGenWeb ste, to deal with third party requests without having sufficient evidence of the integrity and validity of the requesters demand.
Please indicate which family tree you are referring to and the relevant data that is pertinent to you and your family that you want removed for further action as per your request. I will then check the data that is requested to be removed, valdiate your request, and carry out the required action as requested.
This is the first time I am receiving such a request from anyone across the globe even though the website has been in existence since April 1999.
