West Bulls Farm was located on the west side of Bricknell Avenue in the area between the Bricknell Avenue Methodist Church and St. Mary’s Avenue.I have fragmented memories of passing the farm in the late 1950s, when I was seven or eight. I do distinctly remember the smell, so I assume it was a still a working farm at that time.
In the early 1960s the land was purchased by Hull Corporation, who built the housing estate that now occupies the land. My family moved into one of the new houses facing onto Bricknell Avenue in July 1963. It took another two or three years to complete the estate.
My father unearthed many horse shoes and animal bones as he worked to put in a lawn and flower beds.
The West Bulls Pub is on the east side of Bricknell Ave at the junction with Hull Road. The pub was there in 1963, but I don’t know when it was built, or if it had any connection to the farm.
