George William John Day was born 1814. He spent a fair bit of time in prison. I have not been able to find his death. He was alive in Jan. 1868 as an unwilling witness at the Old Bailey. His wife Martha was listed as widow in the 1871 census, she married later that year. The GRO searched 1868/1869/1870 in the London district and tell me there is no record of death for him.(The 1871 death at Poplar is a child ). One of the prisons he was in was Winchester.Sentenced to 18 months 1864. There is a death of a George William Day at Portsea Hampshire June 1870. However there is also a child George William Day born June 1870. Would I be foolish to send for this certificate ? Or is it more likely its the child that died ?
