Thanks for your reply.
I've posted 2 records on a blog I've set up for this research (just click on the pictures to enlarge them)

Canadian Census 1916: http://chelli11ukeroots.wordpress.com/2012/02/06/1916-census-of-manitoba-saskatchewan-and-alberta/http://chelli11ukeroots.wordpress.com/2012/02/06/1916-census-of-manitoba-saskatchewan-and-alberta/
The passenger list says his father is named Rapko from Minsofka?
Speaking to distant family members has told me Daniels was born 22 Nov 1890 and had a brother named Harry (Hawrglo??) and a sister Mary.
I believe Harry ended up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA and the surname changed to "Koslak".
The name is misspelled so many times, and evolved to a more Anglicized version through the generations.
I have not scratched even the surface of Ukrainian records just yet, not sure where to start!
