I had my dna done at Familytreedna. It's showing 20% Middle Eastern in the Family Finder test which only goes back 5-6 generations. This middle eastern would be on my father's side I presume, he was Ukrainian. My mother's family are NW Europe. My paternal Haplogroup is I1 which is Scandinavian, rare for an Ukrainian. The ethnic groups they list for Middle Eastern ancestry are several Arabic groups, Jewish, Iranian and Adygei (from the Caucasus). I have some matches with Ashkenazi Jewish and my closest paternal y-dna match is with an Armenian from Turkey. My father's parent's were from Rozhnyativ in Ivano-Frankivsk. The villages they were from, Nebyliw and Perehinsko and Lypovytsya are near the Carpathians and there are Hutsuls living here as well as possibly Boykos and Lemkos. Some of the surnames I found in my Ukrainian ancestry; Paternal - Sawczyn, Khalus/Chalus, Michalyshyn, Krawec, Krysa, Paulyshyn, Hanciuk, Szlakhtych. Maternal - Tychkowsky, and possibly - Chichak, Melnyk, Babych, Eleniak, Halkowicz, Wiznowicz.
