Turn of the century Drugethaz (Hungarian name) / Zarisco (Slovak name)> Berezna (nagy) jaras/district > Ung megve/region was a village of 1,397, predominantly Rusyn and Hungarian,with its own Greek Catholic Church.Both the filial Roman Catholic Parish and the filial Jewish Kahal were in Berezna.
TODAY the selo/village is called Zarichovo > Perechynskij raion (since 1947) > Zakarpatska oblast/region > Ukraine, latest zip 89212. Population today is appx 2,700. The village has a large population of Lemko (micro-ethnic Ruthenian group from what is SE Poland today), resettled here as a result ofVistula Action, agreement between Communist Poles and Stalin.
Metrykal materials for Zarichovo have been filmed by LDS, but they have not been indexed,making it next to impossible to research. An inquiry at the Uzhorod Archives is the only viable means you have. I can recommend a local, who has ready access to this archives, historically managed by difficult directors.His rates are fair and he does an exc job.If you like, I can provide you his e-mail. ============================================================ Gregory Harry Kurczak (Kuczak***) Gregory = Hrygorij (nickname Hryc, frequently anglicized to Harry) ***Kuczak = ????? shows up in the district (most in selo Turya Remete), but I found none in Zarichovo.
Father Charles Charles was/is not a given name found in this part ofEastern Europe.However, I have seen Wasyl anglicized to Charles quite a few times.
Mary Maslanik Marya Maslyanyk.Cyrillic ? is sounded as YA. ============================================================ Still found in village:
KURCZAK = ??????
