It is not that difficult to check whether you have relatives in Zarichevo. 1959 is comparatively not long ago and the chances your family is still there or somewhere in the region are quite high. Also, there may be some records in the village council. It would be great to read your letter to be able to get more information. Please, e-mail me if you're interested.
The correct Ukrainian spelling of the village is Zarichovo. The village is located in Transcarpathia Oblast(Province), Perechyn Region: http://goo.gl/maps/0cRPghttp://goo.gl/maps/0cRPg
It lies in Lemko Area (learn more at http://www.lemko.org/http://www.lemko.org/) on Uzh River and the name itself means "behind the river". The old name of the village is Drugetháza in Hungarian which means "the house of Druhets". Druhets were a noble family (of French origin) of the Kingdom of Hungary in the 14-17th centuries.
It is known that all the village was flooded in 1672 due to its proximity to the river and all the houses were washed down the river as well as the wooden church. The nowadays cross on one of the streets of the village shows where the center of the old village and the church used to be. The name of that street is "Old Village Street" People who survived settled on the elevated places which are now named Volosuv, Gogolytsi, Grablia. The village is divided into 11 districts and each of them has its own name. The conditions for growing crops are not good because the area is mountainous and Uzh river often overflows.Since it was always one of the main sources of income for most families, their lives were poor.
This is an authentic Lemko hut, the museum of the Lamko House in the village which is often visited by tourists who go to see the ruins of Nevytsky Castle (http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WMDG09_Nevytsky_Castle), Druhets' citadel.
The nowadays population is about 2300 people and according to Ukrainian standards the village is not small. It is governed by its own village council. As you can see, the floods are common there nowadays too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7ZsW7PvJTMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7ZsW7PvJTM
