The monks here were the middle men for all liturgical wine sales to the Greek Catholic Church in Galicia.
During WW2 and post WW2 Sovietthe Monastery came under great disrepair.Monks, not killed by Soviets, were arrested and sentenced to hard labor in Siberia. At one point under the Soviets, St. Nicholas served as a mental institution.
