Hi, friends. I’ve read a lot of posts here and I see people whose inquiries are related to Transcarpathia/Zakarpatska oblast, can’t get objective information about listings and funds of Uzhgorod state archives. So answers they get are rather kind of discourse.
There is nothing surprising because listings of books are not public and treated as internal service information. Nevertheless, it’s available for few people who deal with researches professionally.
So friends if anyone here is sure his or her ancestral village is in Transcarpathia and wants to check availability of records, please contact me. I will try to give the most comprehensive reference - completely free of charge or gratis, in other words.
I do this because I believe people deserve to have this minimum of information regardless further decisions they make.
Another point, just few words. I’ve read here topic with statement old church books are in regional registry offices (rags/racs/zags). In spite of my deep respect to author of this opinion, it’s not so and even vice versa. No registry offices in Transcarpathia may have old church or metric books, they all are in Uzhgorod and were sent here many decades ago. I’m responsible of what I say now.
Also, a very brief explanation why Uzhgorod archive never answers emails. They are overloaded by domestic jobs and have few months long line of internal inquiries. However, it doesn’t mean information can’t be gotten relatively quickly, it can but only if you chose correct hand to lead you through all traps.
