Hi
Just wondered if you had any luck, tracing your walker family history . I found out the following on my recent visit to Jamaica:
There's a Walker family plot in St John's church, st ann's bay, Jamaica. It has 5 family members:
The headstones say :
Ralph Walker passed away 12 Apr 1888 (My great great grandfather )
Anna Maud Walker Born 20 Dec 1880 Died 9 Feb 1908
Anna Maria Walker Died 1900 (maiden name Coombs/ Coombes)
Ralph Darlington Walker Born Jan 1877 Died 2nd Sep 1956 (My great uncle & son of Ralph Walker, brother of Harold Walker)
Harold Francis Walker Born 27 sep 1878 Died 20 Aug 1956(My Great grandfather, brother of ralph darlington walker, son of Ralph walker & Anna Maria Walker)
Additionally I obtained this info from The 1940's Who's who of Jamaica:
Walker. Harold Francis. Planter and Penkeeper. Born St.Ann. Sept. 27. 1878, son late Ralph Walker, penkeeper and Anna Maria Coombs, his wife: Educated Elementary Schools and privately; Bookkeeper (1896-1906), Overseer, Frontier and Friendship Banana Estates. St. Mary 1900-17. Cranbrook, St. Ann 1917-18. Roaring River 1919-20: superintendent, St. Ann properties late Hon. Sir John Pringle, K.C.M.G. 1920-23: Religion: Episcopalian: Recreations: Gardening, Care of Animals and Reading :Address: Spring Mount. Salislbury P.O., St. Ann."
I'd like to find out more about Anna Maria Coombs as well , does the above mean she's Harold's mother or she's Harold's wife.
There are lots of Walkers in St Ann. Its also where Walkers Wood is.I'm also trying to track down a Charles (Chas) Lowe Walker, I don't know if he's related but he seems to be in the same district as my family
Also there was a James Darlington Walker also of St Ann Jamaica, who died in 187-80's ,he leaves property to William Darlington Walker in his will. I don't know if hes related to my great great grandad Ralph (Darlington)Walker. Is there a connection?
There are English Walkers going to and from Jamaica throughout the period are they connected.
I understand that Harold (Harry) Walker may've gone through Australia goldmining and then came to Jamaica.
discoverjamaica.com/shop/genealogy.html They have 70,000
jamaican names on cd & pictures of jamaica.
jamaicanfamilysearch.com for jamaican genealogy sources.
Trying to trace the Walker family from St Ann Jamaica.
Harold (Harry) Francis Walker was my great grandad. Can anyone assist me?
I'd like to find out Ralph Walkers father & mother & whether he came from Jamaica or Europe (possibly England, Scotland) or Australia.
Thanks Bridgette
