I have some relatives that moved from Gjøvåg to North Dakota, and lived in Williams a while. Their Daugther moved to Cordova, Alaska. Maybe you know more about 'em? I know allot about their parents here in Norway..
His name was originally Ørjan Olai Olsen Gjøvåg, but he changed his name to the more American sounding John Olai Hanson. He was born in 1864 at the little place Oppedalen, Gjøvaag in Tysnes right nearby Bergen. Parents names: Hans Olson Gjøvaag (1834-1916) and Brita Olsdatter (1831-1916).
John did moved from Gjøvaag to USA in 1881. Not sure where he lived his first years. John did married Marta Bergersen (b:1867) in Emmons, Minn 1892. He farmed a while in Lamberton, Minn. In 1921 he lived in Williams Co, N. Dak. They had a daughter name Nettie Hanson , witch once visited Gjøvåg in Norway. Nettie lived in Cordova, Alaska, and was a missioner. John Olia died in 1957, not sure where.
All this stuff is from the "bygdebok" from Tysnes.
