Hi Sally, do you have information that says Andrew was shipwrecked off the Aleutians? It is pretty remote out there, and not much reason to go there in 1898. However, there were many shipwrecks on the Inside Passage, as thousands of goldrushers were going from Seattle or San Francisco to Skagway. One boat, the "Clara Nevada" blew up just off Skagway on February 5, 1898 with a loss of about 60 souls, with no list of passengers lost. There were others too, so since from your message, at least one other person was panning for gold in Alaska, it may be they came through Skagway. Just a thought, good luck in your search.
