Probably not in the way you're thinking.Remember, until the Civil War, the US Army was tiny, and made up mostly of state militias that would be called up for national duty only in times of war.Every county had one or more militia districts, each of which would be expected to raise a company of citizen soldiers to defend their area.
Most of the adult male settlers were probably enrolled in the militia in whatever state they came from, and men who served in the American Revolution or War of 1812 could claim land grants in Alabama for their military service, so there would have been a large proportion of ex-soldiers among the settlers. They wouldn't have moved into the area if they thought there would be trouble they couldn't handle themselves.
