Rick, This is not about the marriage certificate. But the only way I know to get ahold of you.I have pondered for some time about this. My gg grandmother, Sara AngelineSmith was a Cherokee. Her family came from Craven County,NC to Monroe County,TN. She married my gggrandfather Joseph D. Mezo in Hamilton County,IL. Her mother was Nancy Foshee m. John R. Smith and his parents wer Henry Smith m. Sara Cox in Craven County,NC. There is a family genelogy of the family online. Google "The History of Montgomery County,Kansas- J. Hardy Smith. Which is a biography of the Smith family. One of the sons in this biography it says is from West Tn but does not say where. Henry Smith, husband of Sara Cox died in Knoxville,TN around 1847. In the 1850 census in Gibson County,TN is listed a Sara Smith with Augustus (Gustus) Smith(her son) and a child James Duffy. I don't know who James Duffy is. But I believe maybe Samuel Smith was from Gibson County,TN at that time. I'm not sure if this Cox/Smith family had anything to do with the Jere Cox family or your. Were there other Cox families there at that time After that they are listed in the 1860 Hamilton County,IL census in 1860? and they supposedly according to the article were inHamilton County,IL by 1850. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. I'm interested in any other Cox,Duffy or Smith family which would give me a clue as to her Cox family.
