I was wondering if the early marriage records for Chambers Co. ever show the bride and grooms' parents' names or where the couple was born?
I have for years been trying to trace down a relative, Augustus H. Cunningham who marries Nancy McDonald in Lafayette, Chambers Co., AL in 1836. In one source it said that theirs was the first marriage to take place in Lafayette after the country was founded. I am trying to find out who were his parents and where did he come from? (I'm also interested in Nancy McDonald's parents, but I figure that even more difficult . . )
They had one son, Augustus H. Cunningham II who marries Mary Elizabeth (Pidgie) Turpin in Perry Co, AL in 1861. He is a newspaper editor and lives after serving in the war in Rome, GA and then in Atlanta.
I think Augustus I dies prior to 1850, because a Montgomery Co., AL 1850 census shows Augustus II living with Nancy and William Bland. I assume that his mother remarried. On this census Augustus II says that his father was from Georgia and his mother Nancy McDonald Cunningham Bland was from NC.
If you have any ideas about how to track down my missing ancestors, I'd be so grateful.
