Hello Simms researchers in Chambers County, Alabama.
Does anyone know the names of the parents of James S. Simms? He is buried in the Simms Family Cemetery which is located almost directly across from the Galilee Church on the Oakbowery to Cusseta Road. The estate and petition to probate of will was filed in Chambers County, Alabama on May 4, 1868 and the petitioner was the widow, Lucretia J. Simms.
SIMMS FAMILY CEMETERY: Jimmie Simms 1796 - 1868(23 April 1868) In the same cemetery is a marker for Mrs. Treacy Simms, who departed this life May 25, 1849 in the 48th year of her age who was a pious member of the Baptist Church for 21 years. Could she have been the wife of James S. Simms? All I had was that the wife of James S. Simms may have been Lucretia J. [--?--] Simms.
Also in that cemetery is: A.L. SimmsFeb. 15, 1823-Nov. 20, 1889 and: In memory of three infants of-no names or dates A.L. & Elizabeth Simms and: L.H. GunnAug. 24, 1802 - Feb. 27, 1855
I've no clue to why L.H. Gunn is buried there; does anyone??
I'm able to identify A. L. Simms as Abraham L. Simms. He and Elizabeth Hurd married 18 Nov. 1845 in Chambers County, Alabama. They are enumerated in the 1850 census for Chambers County, Alabama.

I've no proof, but suspect James S. Simms is a descendant of a line which seems to have always went by "Simms". Those Simms, probably the same line as James S. Simms, are already traced back several generations via Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia, with some speculation of being descended from the Symes of Somerset, England. Given names occuring often in the said Simms line are: Robert; Abraham; Benjamin;Brittain/Britton; Barnes; Phonetta; Penelope and Patience. Some of the Simms marriages include to surnames of: Barnes; Dickinson; Thomas; Dew; Connell; Garrett; Colbert; Burch; Jones; Turner; Tilly; Melson; Ransom; White; Orr; Gary; Hanson; Ware; Minter; Christian; Camp; Prickett; Rucker; Cotton; Grande; Fields; Scarborough; Humphries; Austin; Arnold; Shugart; Rowe; Ramey; Lacy; Robinson; Stacey; Askew; Grumarin; Wilson; Merriweather; Crain; Daniel; Aycock; Bardin; Chance; Woodard; Morris; Cooke; Deans; Horn; Holland; Green; Herring.
I'm also interested in learning if Richard Ransom Simms a resident of Chambers County, Alabama may be connected.I do have information the said Simms line in Georgia was associated with one or more of the Ransom families.
Would apprerciate an opportunity to compare notes and share information which might prove family connections.
