I have some information on this family.James S. Simms was married to Tresey Daniel. Her parents were Lemuel Daniel (b1745, d 1821) and Susannah (Anna) Barnes of Edgecombe Co. NC.Tresey died in 1848 and James remarried to Lucretia.James had an extensive family before he remarried and had several children with his wife Lucretia. His son A.L. Simms is Abraham Lemuel, 61st Ala Reg. And was married to Elizabeth Heard.Their son’s A.L. Simms and James Harvey Simms moved to Bowie Co. Texas and the town Simms, Texas is names after them. The son, Joseph M. Simms, Capt. Co. K 34 Ala. Reg. was a planter in Russell (Lee) Co. in the Salem area.He remained on the census their for several generations. The son Barnes Simms, Co. K 34th Al Reg, was wounded in the war and returned to Oak Bowery
My connection to this family is very strong and I am certain we are related. My 3gg is Barnes M. Simms b. NC abt 1805, and then listed in census 1840 Jones Co. Georgia, then 1860 Russell Co. Al (Salem). His son is Robert T. Simms, my 2gg, Co. K 34th Al, Reg, born in Jones Co. Ga. 1844 (Clinton), died 1910, Lanett, Al. (Chambers Co). My Barnes and James S’s Barnes could not be the same due to the age difference.
I strongly agree that the families have connection to the James P. and Robert Simms families of NC.This family migrated to Hancock Co. Ga. and Coweta Co. Ga.
I too am interested in the parents of James S. Simms; I believe this might be the connection I need to link these two families.I think that my Barnes M. might be the brother to James S. and their father is either Joseph or Robert Simms III of Edgecombe Co. NC.However without proof, this is merely speculation.
