am in search of a Meriweather WALKER and his descendants, specifically Joel W. WALKER. Meriweather is listed in the 1870 AL Census as well as the 1880 Coweta Co. GA Census next door to Joel. I wish I had more info on the WALKER lineage, but as usual my research leads me to very small rocks to turn over. LOL!
I am trying to reduce my brickwalls and my gggf sister Carrie KELLY is one of my three major brickwalls. In a 1922 small autobiography my gggf listed his sister Carrie married to Joel Walker and where they moved. It also states she died before 1880 leaving three children. Before, during and after the Civil War my KELLY lineage lived in this area of the country, AL/GA. I am almost certain that this Joel W. WALKER was married to my gggf sister Caroline KELLY abt. 1868-9 in AL. They are listed as being in both Chambers County, AL and West Point, Troup, GA in records I have located. In the census next door is listed a Miniweather (Meriweather) whom I believe to be his father. In the 1880 Coweta County, GA Census is listed Joel with new wife Nancy and three children who are obviously not Nancy's living next door to Meriweather WALKER. Again, I am convinced this is my gggf sister's children. I have researched this for over 15 years to get to this point.
Alabama Marriages 1800-1969 Joel Walker and Nancy C. WALKER on Jan 8, 1879 in Chambers County, AL
1880 Newnan, Coweta, GA Census Joel WALKER b. abt. 1845 in AL Nancy C. b. abt. 1854 Mary J. b 1869 in AL Felix J. b. 1871 GA Willis N. b. 1874 in GA
Caroline KELLY was born. abt. 1849 in AL and died btw. 1875 and 1879. My guess is closer to the 1879 time frame leaving these three children. My best guess is she died in child birth.
If anyone has any info on any of these people or descend PLEASE help me decode my gggf sisters legacy! THANKS....
