Would like hearing from anyone knowing about this couple and their children.
I've been attempting to learn more about Elizabeth Harriet Sims for many years and think I've finally came across information suggesting she married John H. Davis about 1862 possibly in Talladega Co., AL.
It appears that he was born abt. 1840 probably in Talladega Co., AL. and after marriage to Elizabeth H. Sims in abt 1862 moved to Clay Co., Al. by abt. 1870 or sooner.
They are enumerated in the 1880 census for Coppermines, Clay Co., AL.as follows:
John H. Davis; age 39; b. AL.parents b. GA. Henrietta E. Davis; age 28?(36), b. AL. parents b. GA?
Best info. I've found is that she was b. abt. 1844 in Chambers Co., AL. and her father was b. SC and mother b. GA.They were Clayborn & Susan (Waldrop) Sims and both are buried in unmarked graves in the old Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery near Delta, Clay Co., AL. Early minutes of that old church record that Clayborn & Susan and their children were charter members of that old church which once stood on their farm land and was in Randolph Co., AL. in 1860.
Continuing with 1880 census: Margaret F. Davis; age 18; b. AL. Nancy C. Davis; age. 9; b. AL. Sousan? Susan E. Davis; age 7; b. AL. John H. Davis; age 5; b. AL. James C. Davis; age 4; b. AL. Mary S. Davis; age 2; b. AL. William Proctor; age 16; b. GA. working on farm.
I've not yet learned where John H. Davis and wife Elizbeth Harriet Sims are buried, but suspect they may be buried in two of the 31 unmarked graves in the old Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery near Delta, Clay Co., AL.
Elizabeth Harriet Sims; age 6 is enumerated in the 1850 census of Talladega Co., AL. with her siblings and parents, Clayborn & Susan Sims. Elizabeth Harriet Sims; age 16 is enumerated in the 1860 census of Randolph Co., AL. with her siblings and parents, Clayborn & Susan Sims. Elizabeth Harriet Sims is not enumerated in the 1870 census of Clay Co., AL. with her siblings and parents, Clayborn & 2nd wife Sarah.Ref: Twp. or Div. of County: 19 - Range 9 - Lineville P.O. Dwelling 83; Fox Creek Beat #2.
If anyone has a book of marriages in Talladege Co., AL. it would sure be apprerciated if you could do a look-up for the marriage of John H. Davis and Elizabeth H. Sims, possibly 1861 - 1862?
