Eric: Great hearing from you.I wrote the post that you were responding to prior to reconnecting with Lenton.I had not seen him since my dad's funeral in Glencoe in Nov. 1982.I was living in Brooklyn, NY at the time and got down infrequently. He was still in the Army at the time too.Kind of lost touch.Tried to get down annually to see my grandmother, Eula Mae.Just before Christmas las year I found a family tree entry by him on ancestry.com and, like we are doing here, communicated with him.I was planning to do another search for Guthrie's Chapel on my way up from Florida to Ohio. After a visit to Mt. Zion, as we were driving out, my wife suggested that I not head back to County Road 5, but keep on the paved road past Mt. Zion.we continued and I found Guthrie's Chapel.I realized that I had been there as a child, probably with my grandmother. And, it was probably for the Browning reunion.I found out about that from another post on this website answered by a Browning relative living in Pensacola.Missed the reunion last year but did attend last month, with Lenton and Annette. On our way in December to Ohio we stopped at Lenton's for couple of hours. He put me in contact with cousin Richard Browning.Rich's dad was my grandfather Edgar Browning's older brother.Rich and I met in Akron and talked Browning genealogy for 5 hours at the Barnes & Noble book store and then continued over lunch.I got a lot of Browning genealogy from him.I returned to Clay County in March, and then again in August on my way Lenton's and the world's longest yard sale! Then, as mentioned went to the reunion. Were you there? If so, I was the guy with the little white dog.At the reunion I met a lot of relatives I'd not seen in 40+ years.Had a really good time and was invited to speak at next one, which will not be able to make: on a cruise with my wife's family. Will be back in 2 years for the reunion but expect to make several periodic visits between now and them.My sister and brothers and I still have land in Glencoe, granparents farm. All overgrown now.And I am pondering buying a place in Ashland area for retirement. (Florida is not what it's cracked up to be) although moving my wife away will be tough, now that we have 1st g-grandchild.
Met Gabby (Forbes) Luker sisters.Your post helped me with that family connection. So where are you?In Clay County?I noted Smiths at the reunion and many living in the Millerville area.Rich Browning is also related to Martins and Smiths.
I am living in Brandon, Florida, outside of Tampa.I have a distant cousin here, Bill Dial. His mother was a Lowry and younger sister of Dora Lowry who was married to John Daniel Browning.Back in 1998 he asked me where my family was from.I said Clay County Alabama.Next time I saw him he gave me geneaology charts for John Daniel Browning and Kiffen Browning. That actually started my efforts to trace family tree.Still working on it and, like now, making new connections.
I appreciate your information.By the way, here is my direct email - firstname.lastname@example.orgWe can communicate more freely and directly via email.I really look forward to continuing the conversation. Many thanks.
