This is not related to genealogy, but the information needs to be out there. As many of you have heard, Hurrican Ivan has caused catastrophic damage to south Alabama and northwest Florida. I live in Mobile, and In the Mobile Register this morning it stated that residents of some remote, rural Alabama areas are desperate for food.
These areas include Monroe and Conecuh counties. Burnt Corn, which is in Conecuh Co. is one mentioned in which people really need food and water. The Burnt Corn Volunteer Fire Dept. is helping to distribute these items.
The fire chief said that some people have nothing to eat, and people don't seem to care. He also said many people in the community are elderly and have limited means of communication. He said their needs were being over-looked. "We need generators, ice, and food." Woodmen of the World are also distributing supplies, but they need more.
