Below is a letter written by Franklin Pierce Morgan 21 Sep 1918 to his son, Charles Louis Morgan. In it he mentions a cemetery at Fish Pond where several family members are buried. We assumed this was the Fish Pond Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery outside of Nixburg. But we have had a friend look there and found no Morgans buried there. According to the County records there was a baby Morgan buried there in 1855. But not a group like we are looking for.
Can anyone point us in the right direction? This is our big brick wall!
Dear Son Charles: Yours of 12 came a few days ago, was proud to learn you have such a swell position and doing so well. You and Milton are sure making good and I am proud of you. Yes. I now wear the 3 star service badge on the lapel of my coat and am proud of my boys. Can't you tell me where Otto is and what he is doing? You say he will soon crossover. I guess he is ashamed... ... to write me now after writing such unjust, insulting letters the last two or three times he wrote me in Ark. and he should be. I shall never write or speak to him until he apologizes for his insults. Yet, he is my boy and I would like to know what he is doing. Don't think the war will last too long. I am in bad health, doing nothing but jobing around home. Am able to be around and pick about. I closed my office in June when I went on a visit to Alabama, Coosa County and old Fish Pond. Wish you could tell me more of that relative you mention from Fish Pond*, Ala. You fail to give me his given name but say his Grandfather was Milton Morgan. My father was James Milton Morgan, and your Grandfather. Milton was named for him and myself -Milton Pierce. My name is Franklin Pierce. But father has no other grandchildren but you all. This young man must be a nephew of my father as he was the only Milton in the family and had several brothers named Frank,Bill, and Jack,. These are all I remember. Old Grandfather Morgan was called Jimmy- James and may have had Milton as his name. I don't know. I think that young man must be a son of Uncle Frank or Uncle Bill Morgan-brothers of my Father and your Grandfather. If you see him again, make further inquiry. I found none of Uncle Frank or Uncle Bill's children while there. All having grown up and scattered out of the country but found many of the Carter connection and descendents of Uncle Jack Morgan, one of my father's brothers. Fish Pond, Ala is the name of an old side hard shell Baptist Church not a town. It was built in 1840 or 42 and still stands. I attended church there 3rd Sunday in July this year everything looked natural. I went to church there when a boy. My father and many relatives are buried there.
The old country however and old homes of many old time people have changes till none look natural, many houses obliterated and gone.
Well, must close. Write again at least once a month. Keep me posted. Rec'd a letter from Milton just before yours. He seems to also be making good. Do you ever hear from Mabel and what is she doing? Does she want to return to America? Give me her address and I will write her. Love from Daddy, FPM
