I tried to do a timeline for our mystery and it has provided some interesting facts. I also wanted to know why two generations named a son Milford Randall and found that there was a doctor in Fayette Co., AL by that name. "1851-5[No. 440] AN ACT...To authorize Dr. M. (Milford) Randall of the county of Fayette to collect moneys due him for his professional services." I have no certain death date for Andrew Jackson but according to census his last child by Mary Ann Wiley was in 1856.
By 1858 or before he had married Sarah Adeline, born 1836. But where did they meet? By Sarah, Andrew had James b. 1859, Jack b. 1861, Cebern born 1862, Dolly born 1864, William Patterson born 1866 and Adeline born 1871. The discrepancy seems to be concerning those last four children. I believe that they were living with Dr. Lemuel Porter in Houston. He was Andrew Jackson Porter's brother. It appears by the census that the three: Dolly, Cebern and William were added as a hasty after thought at the very end page of the census takers papers. Dr. Lem Porter is two houses away. Sarah, Jack and James are in the outlying part of Chickasaw county and may very well have been harvesting or planting. According to land records Lemuel owned Lots 1 and 8 in Houston. Where are these?
A Civil War record for an Andrew Jackson Porter states he joined 3rd Miss Inf. on 4 May 1862 and was with his company in 14 July 1862 and discharged 4 May 1863. Seems this outfit was drawn from local militia for six months of service. It was not unusual for a man on maneuvers to drop by home or a family's home. I've family letters telling of this. Suppose we need to find out the deaths in that unit. At any rate, I find too much of a consistent trail of events to place these later children with another man. I know that some kind of DNA was done that seemed to indicate different fathers but we would really need a better analysis of more loci to make that kind of conclusion.

We might want to look for an A. J. Porter who died after June 1870.
By the way, there is a John Porter listed at a hotel in Houston, MS in 1870. Will recheck.
