Golden – James Mordie Williams, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Feb. 27, 1922, to Orville Buckner and Mary Francis “Fannie” Murphree Williams. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He was retired from TVA, where he worked as a carpenter.
Services were Nov. 4 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Golden. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors included his wife of almost 62 years, Irene Shewbart Williams of Golden; two daughters, Carolyn Barksdale (Wade) of Red Bay and Cathy Lindsey of Tupelo; one sister, Gladys Holland of Red Bay; four grandchildren, Carrie Pharr (Scotty) and Leah Wooten (Cody), all of Red Bay, Jeffrey Barksdale (Mandy) of Russellville, Ala., and Lana Parrish (Daniel) of Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Quince Williams; and one sister, Keva Grissom.
