I may have cracked the secret code in figuring out the mystery of my gggrandfather, John Gamble Jr. of Shorterville, AL in Henry CO.I have wondered why he lived in the tiny town of Shorterville, was a blacksmith, came from GA, lived right next to a Thomas Gamble, had children with the same names as other Gambles in the tiny town, but was not apparently related to the other Gambles.
John Gamble Jr. WAS related! He was a first cousin of Thomas Gamble, and a nephew of George Gamble, one of the early settlers of Henry CO.John Jr was the son of Robert John Gamble, of Jefferson CO, GA and his wife Violet Lawson. Both died early in John's life, his mother possibly died in childbirth. This would explain why I could not pin down John's parentage or find siblings or any connections.John is referred to in Roger Lawson Gamble's will (John's uncle who must have raised him in his early childhood). I don't know when John crossed the Chattahootchee River into Shorterville and with whom he lived prior to his 1848 marriage to Tempy Deal.
Anyway, this is exciting for me to have finally found an answer to a decades-long family mystery.Any input from other Gamble descendants gratefully appreciated.
