I have FINALLY finished a 2-year project and completed transcribing the ENTIRE first roll of microfilm of the Lamar County newspapers from the Alabama Department of Archives and History. These include The Vernon Pioneer (1875-1878), The Vernon Clipper (1879-1880) and The Lamar News (1886 - 1887). The finished papers can be viewed freely on www.newspaperabstracts.com under Lamar County. They may also be viewed at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/al/lamar/newspapers.htmhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/al/lamar/newspapers.htm and soon on the Lamar County Kin website at http://www.fayette.net/carruth/indexpage.htmhttp://www.fayette.net/carruth/indexpage.htm.
In the beginning I typed everything in the paper, but as I went along, it began to be more what I thought was interesting.I did however put the headline and a brief statement of what the article was about. I tried to be as accurate as possible, however, that's A LOT of typing, so I know mistakes were made.If anyone is interested in a photocopy of the actual article please let me know.
On the Archives website, as I submitted a paper, I also submitted any marriages and deaths that appeared in the paper, so look there as well for information. These papers included not only local news, but state, national, and world news, also recipes, farming notes, household tips, fashion notes, music, etc.Very informational about the time period.
Hope it helps someone break down their brick walls!!
