I don't know of any Grahams connected with my Whites, but I do know that according to local historians just anybody with roots up there in the early years is looking at mixed blood.
I think it's a really, really interesting history that just hasn't been written - I was raised believing that there were whites and Indians, and all the Indians were removed to Oklahoma. What a shock to find out differently!
That area is very rugged and rather isolated even today, with the Bankhead National Forest supposedly the largest wildnerness area east of the Mississippi. I have read various early accounts of Cherokees who were being removed down the Tennessee River escaping into the hills in west Alabama - and obviously the local people weren't turning them in.
