I am posting this in the hope that other researchers will find it, and correct erroneous information that is out here in cyberspace. Obediah Stover of Lawrence County, Alabama, born in Virginia around 1804, son of Obediah Stover, brother of Elijah, Elisha, Abraham, Joshia, and Lorenzo Dow Stover, was a Southern Unionist who joined the Union Army - specifically, Company I, 1st Alabama Cavalry, US Volunteers. Many have him confused with his brother Joshia who went to Arkansas. Some even show Joshia as the husband of Sarah Logan, who was, in fact, Obediah's wife. I have his military service record, and it is summarized on Obediah's memorial on Find A Grave at the link you will find below. Although most of my ancestors fought for the Confederacy, I am especially proud of this man who stuck by his principles during our nation's gravest hours. Not many men his age would have dreamed of leaving home to fight for any reason. The fact that he did so when he was 58 speaks of his dedication.
