I just saw your message, and maybe you have already gone to Athens, but- I was actually in Limestone at the Archives last week. Phillip Reyer is the archivist and should be able to help you. Some of the information you are seeking is in the family vertical files in a filing cabinet, others are in various books in the archives- several for photographs, some for abridgements of deeds and marriage records- and others on microfilm (especially deeds, court records, mortgages, and newspapers). There are only a few newspapers dating back to the 1800s, but there plenty after that. There is very little you can do online or electronically. While in Athens you should also go to the George S. Houston House and Museum (there are historical and genealogical records there), and the archive room at Athens State University (in the library). You should call ahead to make sure someone will be there to talk with you and to get their hours of operation. The archivist at Athens State is Sarah Lake.
