Paul-According to the 1860 Census-Your Jerome was not in Limestone Co, but was instead in Lauderdale Co.District 1, Family 440.Family shown as Jerome B., age 35, b. AL; Elisabeth (30) TN; Ebenezar, (13) AL; Jesse P. (1) AL; Balus (6) AL; Mary E. (3) AL and Jacob (0) AL.
Next door (family 441) was a Jessee O. Tate (30) AL who was undoubtably brother of Jerome B.Had wife Liza and children Franklin, Benjamin & Prudence.
In 1870 Elisabeth Tate, widow of Jerome was in Giles, TN
• United States Census, 1870 • Tennessee • Giles • District 02 Elizabeth Tate F 41y Tennessee Issa Tate M 21y Alabama Balas Tate M 16y Alabama Mary Tate F 13y Alabama Jacob Tate M 12y Alabama Benton Tate M 8y Alabama
Note that Benmton was born in 1862 in AL so Jerome died after that date.I tried to find Benton in 1900 census to see year and month that he was born but could not find him there. He was in Giles in 1880, still single and living with a family named Hardeman working as a farmhand.
There was a Jessie Tate, born in 1830 in AL also living in Giles Cop. in 1880 who is probably the same Jessee shown in 1860 in Lauderdale C0., AL living next door to Jerome.Apparently his wife Liza had died and he remarried to a Sarah and had several children by her.In that census he says that his father was born in NC so tht might be some help to you.
There was a ton of Tates ion Lauderdale Co., even a Tate/Russell Cemetery there as well as many Tates buried in other cemeteries there.o I know that one cemetery listed 17 Tates.I did not check them all but did a few to see if maybe Jerome was buried there.
