Hi Ira, I am appreciate all of your posting here and on Harris Hunters.DNA results came back from a descendant of Thaddeus Walker Harris also in Marion and his DNA does not match Group 3 which is unexpected. They aren't in a DNA group yet.
We definitely have three Group 3 lines in Marion concurrently. The first is
George Washington Harris Birth 05 Jul 1852 in Lafayette, Chambers, Alabama USA Death 18 May 1936 in Pauls Valley, Garvin, Oklahoma USA
believed to be the son of
Elizabeth Moss Birth 06 JUN 1815 in South Carolina Death in of Marion, Alabama USA Her parents lived in North Carolina and see no record of SC location. Her birth location is given on 1860 census. Also on the 1860 census we see Thomas was born in Georgia.
Thomas Harris Birth 6 Nov 1806 in Jefferson, Georgia USA Death Aft. 1870 in Fayette, Fayette, Alabama USA This was a second marriage for Thomas
In 1860 they are listed in the Eastern District of Marion and the post office is Astons store.I believe these Astons are connected to James Aston who was in Meckelnburg, NC and then Abbeville, SC.I believe this became Fayette County before the time of his death.
Other children listed for Thomas Harris and probably those by his first wife are: Martha Harris 1825 – Eliza Jane Harris 1828 – Mary E. Harris 1835 – 1863 Catherine Young Harris 1836 – 1886 Samuel W. Harris 1841 – Nancy C. Harris 1843 – Francis A. Harris 1846 –
There is one household (Weeks) between Thomas Harris and Thaddeus Harris so it seemed likely they were related, but the DNA is off.
Thaddeus Harris Birth 1831 in Marion, Alabama USA Death 1853 in Marion, Alabama USA
son ofMoses Harris 1799 – 1871 Drucilla Walker 1803 – 1876 wife, Nancy Elizabeth Berryhill 1831-1917
The second Group 3 DNA line in Marion, Alabama during the same period is Elijah Harris born 1804 in South Carolina and died before 1878 in Wise, Texas. His wife was named Elizabeth LNU born about 1809 in SC and their children are:
Mary Jayne HARRIS 1829 – 1882 Thomas A. HARRIS 1830 – 1860 John HARRIS 1833 – James N. HARRIS 1836 – Margaret C. HARRIS 1839 – Rhoda HARRIS 1841 – Joshua HARRIS 1842 – Elija Houston HARRIS 1844 – 1893 Jesse W. HARRIS 1844 – 1932 William HARRIS 1846 – Dicey HARRIS 1849 – Rebecca A. HARRIS 1854 – 1913
Then the third Group 3 line in Marion, Alabama is John Harris married to Anna LNU.John was thought to be a brother to the Elijah above or close relative because they lived next to each other and seemed to migrate west together.John and Elijah's DNA are both in the same Group but the lines are different and apart more than expected.
John HARRIS Birth 1805 not clear where he was born Death 1848 in Marion County, Alabama or Itawamba County, Mississippi, USA
His wife was
Anna LNU Birth 1810 in Tennessee USA Death 1874 in Smith, Texas USA
Their children are: Jesse Harris 1829 – Elizabeth Harris 1833 – Nancy Jane Harris 1834 – 1880 Samuel Lorance Harris 1836 – 1876 James Marion? Harris 1839 – 1920 Elijah McCall Harris 1842 – 1913 Rebecca Harris 1844 – Mary Ann Harris 1848 – 1929
Do you also have an Elijah in your line?I put Marsha in touch with you thinking you might.
I also wonder if you had ever considered Thaddeus Walker Harris or know other Groups in Marion at the same time? There are Wylies/Wileys in the area and I believe they will relate to Group 3's Dorothy Wiley, wife of Robert Harris and they were the parents of all the brothers that emigrated from Ireland to PA before 1730.
I wondered if you also have Wileys in your Group and also one of our lines travels with the Franks family and others coming down from Tennessee. Were yours ever in the Territory South of French Broad or East Tennessee right after Revolution?Maybe this could help distinguish.
